Why Mallorca Is the Premier Yacht Charter Destination

Mallorca is far more than a holiday island. It is one of the Mediterranean's premier charter destinations and, for anyone considering a private yacht charter in Mallorca, it offers an exceptional combination of natural beauty, sheltered anchorages, and first-class marina infrastructure that few places on earth can rival. With roughly 550 kilometres of coastline packed into a single island, there is a remarkable variety of landscapes to explore by sea — from the dramatic limestone cliffs of the Serra de Tramuntana on the northwest coast to the powder-white sands and turquoise shallows of Es Trenc in the south.

"Three hundred days of sunshine, crystal-clear water, and over two hundred hidden calas that are only reachable by boat — Mallorca was made for yacht charter."

What makes a boat charter in Mallorca truly special is access. Dozens of the island's most beautiful coves — known locally as calas — are unreachable by road. Places like Cala Deià, Cala Varques, and the tiny inlets around Cap de Formentor reveal themselves only to those who arrive by water. When you charter a private yacht from Palma, these secret spots become part of your itinerary: anchor in solitude for a morning swim, let your onboard chef prepare a Mallorcan-inspired lunch on the aft deck, and move on at your own pace to the next cove before sunset.

Mallorca also enjoys a strategic position at the heart of the Balearic Islands. From the main harbour in Palma, the crossing to Ibiza and Formentera takes only three to four hours aboard a fast motor yacht, while the quieter island of Menorca lies a comfortable half-day cruise to the east. This makes Palma the ideal base for a yacht rental in Mallorca that combines island-hopping with the relaxed pace of coastal cruising. Whether you have a single day or a full week, the options are virtually limitless — and the weather, with more than 300 days of sunshine per year, offers consistently favourable cruising conditions.

Your Sunseeker 88 in Mallorca

M/Y Junior is a Sunseeker 88 motor yacht, built in 2024 and finished to the highest specification. At 27 metres in length, she strikes the perfect balance between genuine ocean-going capability and the intimacy of a private yacht — large enough to cross comfortably to Ibiza or Menorca, yet agile enough to tuck into the narrow calas that bigger vessels cannot access.

Onboard, you will find four beautifully appointed guest cabins accommodating up to eight guests, each with full en-suite facilities and climate control. The main saloon flows seamlessly onto a generous aft deck, while the flybridge offers an expansive open-air lounge with wet bar, sun pads, and 360-degree views. A dedicated crew of four, including an experienced captain and a private chef, ensures that every detail of your Sunseeker charter in Mallorca is handled with quiet professionalism.

From the first welcome glass of cava as you step aboard in Palma to the final sunset anchorage, the team aboard M/Y Junior is committed to creating a genuinely personal experience. Explore the full yacht details, including deck plans, cabin layouts, and amenity list, on the main M/Y Junior page.

Popular Routes from Palma de Mallorca

Every charter aboard M/Y Junior is tailored to your preferences, but these are the routes our guests love the most. Your captain will suggest the best anchorages based on wind, season, and your interests.

01

Palma to Sóller & Port de Andratx

Head southwest along the spectacular Tramuntana coast, stopping at the historic harbour of Port de Andratx for lunch before continuing to the picture-perfect bay of Sóller. Along the way, the crew will anchor in secluded coves at the base of towering cliffs where you can snorkel over Neptune grass meadows. This is one of the most popular day-charter routes from Palma, though a two-day version allows time to explore the tiny harbour villages of Deià and Valldemossa from the sea. The coastline here is among the most dramatic in the Mediterranean, with the UNESCO-listed Tramuntana mountains plunging directly into deep blue water.

02

Palma to Es Trenc & Cabrera

Cruise south from Palma along the island's gentler leeward coast to Es Trenc, a three-kilometre stretch of pristine white sand often compared to Caribbean beaches. After a morning of swimming and water sports in the shallow turquoise water, continue to the Cabrera Archipelago National Park — a protected marine reserve just ten nautical miles offshore. Cabrera's crystal-clear waters harbour rich marine life, and the anchorage in the main harbour is one of the most scenic overnight stops in the Balearics. Special permits are required to visit Cabrera, which your captain will arrange in advance.

03

Palma to Ibiza & Formentera

The crossing from Palma to Ibiza takes approximately three to four hours aboard M/Y Junior, making it a very comfortable day passage. Arrive in time for lunch at a beachside restaurant in Cala Jondal or anchor off the legendary Formentera sandbars, where the water takes on vivid emerald tones. Many guests combine two or three days around Ibiza and Formentera with the rest of their week exploring Mallorca's own coastline, creating a complete Balearic private yacht hire itinerary. Formentera's Ses Illetes beach, consistently ranked among Europe's finest, is an unforgettable anchorage.

04

Full Balearics Circuit — 7 Days

For guests who want to see it all, the seven-day Balearic circuit is the definitive Mediterranean yacht charter. Depart Palma and head east along the south coast to Cabrera, then up to the unspoilt beaches of Mallorca's northeast. Cross to Menorca for a day exploring Macarella and Ciutadella's historic harbour, before heading southwest to Ibiza and Formentera. Return to Palma via the stunning west coast with a final night anchored beneath the Tramuntana mountains. This itinerary covers roughly 250 nautical miles and delivers a remarkable diversity of landscapes, cuisine, and culture within a single week of boat rental in Palma.

Mallorca Yacht Charter FAQ

When is the best time to charter a yacht in Mallorca?

The yacht charter season in Mallorca runs from May through October. June and September offer the best combination of warm weather, calm seas, and fewer crowds. July and August are peak season with the warmest water temperatures (25–27°C) and the liveliest atmosphere in Palma and the coastal towns. May and October are ideal for guests who prefer quieter anchorages and slightly cooler but still very pleasant conditions, with average temperatures around 22–25°C.

Can we visit Ibiza and Formentera from Mallorca?

Absolutely. The crossing from Palma de Mallorca to Ibiza is approximately 55 nautical miles, which M/Y Junior covers comfortably in around three to four hours. Many of our guests choose to spend two or three days exploring Ibiza and Formentera as part of a week-long Mallorca-based charter. Your captain will plan the crossing to take advantage of the best weather windows, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable passage.

Do I need a boating licence to charter M/Y Junior?

No. M/Y Junior is a fully crewed yacht charter, which means our professional captain handles all navigation and seamanship. You and your guests are free to relax and enjoy the experience without any qualifications or boating experience. The captain will be happy to explain the yacht's systems and even offer informal helm time if you are interested, but there is no requirement on your part.

What should we pack for a yacht charter in Mallorca?

Pack light and casual. Soft-soled shoes (or bare feet) are preferred on deck to protect the teak. Bring swimwear, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen), light evening wear if you plan to dine ashore in Palma or Port de Andratx, and a light jacket for cooler evenings at sea. The yacht provides premium towels, bathrobes, snorkelling gear, and all water sports equipment, so there is no need to bring your own. We recommend soft luggage rather than hard suitcases for easy stowing aboard.

How far in advance should we book?

For peak season (July and August), we recommend booking at least three to six months in advance, as these weeks fill quickly. Shoulder season dates (May, June, September, October) typically have more availability, but popular holiday weeks such as Easter and Spanish bank holidays also book early. For day charters, shorter notice is often possible — contact us to check current availability. A 50% deposit secures your booking, with the balance due 30 days before the charter start date.
